Ski Cabin/ Visitor Centre
Size: 2000 sq-ft
Location: Iceland
Seam of Horizons celebrates the intersection of architecture and nature, creating a ski cabin that bridges the Icelandic valley. The design pays homage to the landscape, with the mountain scape shaping roads, rivers, and terrain, and ultimately embracing the cabin itself. An imaginary line serves as a guiding seam, framing horizons at each end and capturing the valley’s essence.
The project’s massing is inspired by the natural surroundings, with two trapezoidal forms strategically oriented to frame the valley’s most captivating views. These masses rise to echo the peaks of Iceland’s iconic mountains, creating a sense of the surrounding topography. The space between the forms defines an imaginary valley, reinforcing the visual link to the natural landscape.
This alignment draws visitors’ gaze towards the horizon, offering a seamless transition between built and natural environments. Seam of Horizons is not just a ski cabin; it is a sanctuary where nature and human creativity converge, providing tranquility and inspiration in the quiet strength of the mountains and the endless horizons.
